National Scholarship Programme

The National Scholarship Programme (NSP) is designed to help students from lower income families with the cost of attending university.

In academic year 2012/13, Edge Hill University will contribute over £650,000 in scholarship payments and fee waivers as part of the scheme.

Scholarship Amount

Each NSP award is worth £3,000 in total.

It will be awarded in year 1 of a full-time undergraduate programme as a cash benefit of £1,000 with a £2,000 contribution to university accommodation costs.

Students who do not wish to take up university accommodation will receive a £2,000 fee waiver.

Eligibility

Places will be allocated to all English domiciled students who meet our offer requirements and eligibility criteria (excluding those on programmes with tuition fees paid by the Department of Health or Strategic Health Authority).

To be eligible for an award, you must:

  • Have a verified household income at or below £25,000;
  • Achieve at least 170 UCAS tariff points at AS level, from three subjects taken together at first sitting, or 360 points from a maximum of three subjects in one sitting at A2 or BTEC/CACHE/IB equivalent.

Please note, if the number of students who qualify for an award is below the number of available scholarships, the criteria will be reduced accordingly.

Part-time students may be eligible for some elements of a National Scholarship Programme award on a pro-rata basis - please keep checking this page for updates as arrangements are confirmed.

How do I apply?

There is no application process for the National Scholarship Programme for academic year 2012/13. Prospective students will be automatically assessed against the eligibility criteria outlined above.

Please note, to be able to use the scholarship as a contribution towards University accommodation, you must have done the following by 30th June 2012:

  • Applied for accommodation in our halls of residence;
  • Applied to Student Finance England for student funding and had your financial assessment completed.

Any student who has not completed this process by 30th June 2012 but meets the NSP criteria will be offered the £2,000 fee waiver in place of the accommodation discount. All eligible, qualifying students will still receive the £1,000 cash bursary. Information about the application procedure for accommodation (including deadlines) will be sent directly to applicants.

To assist with verifying household income, you should apply for student finance as early as possible. You can apply online through Student Finance England at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance. It is essential that you consent to share your financial information on your student finance application.
