Scholarships Guide
Edge Hill University anticipates providing a minimum of £100,000 in Excellence Scholarships in 2012 and more than £650,000 in awards as part of the National Scholarship Programme.
Our range of scholarships for prospective students recognise determination, commitment and achievement in creative arts, performing arts, sport and volunteering, and also reward outstanding examination results.
We also offer a number of scholarships for current students, including awards for poetry, academic and personal achievement, raising the profile of the University, and making a contribution to equality, overcoming personal difficulty, and helping vulnerable members of the community.
This page gives a breakdown of the different scholarships we offer and the criteria and application process (where applicable) for each award.
Entrance Scholarships
- Rewarding: Determination, commitment and achievement in creative arts, performing arts, sport or volunteering (irrespective of subject studied);
- Eligibility: Prospective students who have made Edge Hill University their first choice or firmly accepted an offer of a place on a full-time undergraduate programme or full-time PGCE are eligible;
- Value: £2,000 paid over 3 years for undergraduates, £1,000 paid over 1 year for PGCE students;

National Scholarship Programme
- Rewarding: High performing, prospective full-time undergraduate students with a low household income who achieve outstanding examination results. Part-time students may be eligible for some elements of a National Scholarship Programme award on a pro-rate basis;
- Eligibility: Places will be allocated to all UK students with a verified household income at or below £25,000 who meet our offer requirements and achieve at least 170 UCAS tariff points at AS level from three subjects taken together at first sitting or who achieve 360 UCAS tariff points from a maximum of three subjects in one sitting at A2 or BTEC/CACHE/IB equivalent. Students on programmes with tuition fees paid by the Department of Health or Strategic Health Authority are not eligible;
- Value: £3,000 (paid over year 1 of the degree, £1,000 as a cash benefit and £2,000 in contribution to university accommodation costs or as a fee waiver);
- How to Apply: No application process. Prospective students will be automatically assessed against the eligibility criteria outlined above. Please note, to use the scholarship as a contribution towards University accommodation costs, you must have applied for accommodation in our halls of residence, applied to Student Finance England for student funding and had your financial assessment completed by 30th June 2012.

High Achievers Scholarship
- Rewarding: High performing school leavers who achieve outstanding results in their final A2 (or equivalent) exams;
- Eligibility: Prospective students must have submitted their UCAS application to a full-time undergraduate degree at Edge Hill University. 360 UCAS points must be achieved from a maximum of three A Levels (or equivalent Level 3 qualifications) taken in the year of entry. All applicants who qualify for the National Scholarship Programme will not be eligible for a High Achievers Scholarship;
- Value: £1,000 (paid over year 1 of the degree);
- How to Apply: No application process. Prospective students will be automatically assessed against the eligibility criteria outlined above.

Preparation for Higher Education Scholarship
- Rewarding: Achievement on the University's Fastrack: Preparation for Higher Education course;
- Eligibility: Students who have completed the Fastrack: Preparation for Higher Education course and enrolled on a full-time degree are eligible;
- Value: £2,000 paid over three years;
- How to Apply: No application process, although students are encouraged to speak to their Fastrack tutor to discuss their individual situation and desire to be considered for this award.

On-Course Scholarships
- Rewarding: Determination, commitment and achievement in creative arts, performing arts, sport or volunteering (whether through your course or outside of university);
- Eligibility: Full-time undergraduate students in years 1 or 2 of a 3 year degree programme are eligible;
- Value: £1,000 paid over 2 years for students applying in year 1 of a degree, £500 paid over 1 year for students applying in year 2;

Rhiannon Evans Poetry Scholarship
- Rewarding: Students who display promise as creative writers;
- Eligibility: All current students who are studying a minimum of 60 credits in the current academic year are eligible, excluding permanent employees of Edge Hill University. Poems submitted must be previously unpublished;
- Value: £500;

Academic Achievement Scholarships
- Rewarding: Students who have shown academic and personal achievement;
- Eligibility: All full-time or part-time students subsequent to completion of 120 credits at level 4 of an undergraduate degree or foundation degree (equivalent to year 1 of a full-time programme) are eligible to be considered;
- Value: £500;

Jesse Jackson Scholarships
- Rewarding: A commitment and contribution to equality; voluntary work helping vulnerable members of the community; and the determination to overcome difficult personal circumstances to inspire and lead others;
- Eligibility: All full-time students are eligible;
- Value: £1,000;
- How to Apply: No application process, although students are encouraged to speak to their personal tutor to discuss their individual situation and desire to be considered for this award. The deadline for nominations for 2012/13 Jesse Jackson Scholarships is Monday 28th May 2012.

Chancellor's Scholarship
- Rewarding: Students who help raise the profile of Edge Hill in a positive way through their exceptional contribution to the University;
- Eligibility: Full-time students in year 2 of an undergraduate degree are eligible;
- Value: £1,000;
- How to Apply: No application process, although students are encouraged to speak to their personal tutor to discuss their individual situation and desire to be considered for this award. The deadline for nominations for 2012/13 Chancellor's Scholarships is Monday 28th May 2012.

Adam Bell Scholarship
- Rewarding: Students who make a significant contribution to the community of the University;
- Eligibility: Students currently in years 1 or 2 of a full-time undergraduate programme (or equivalent level of study on a part-time course) and full-time or part-time postgraduate students. Please note, postgraduate students must have registered to study 180 credits at the start of the course to be considered for this award;
- Value: £2,000;
- How to Apply: Nomination application process, with staff and students able to nominate potential recipients. Students are encouraged to speak to their personal tutor to discuss their individual situation and desire to be considered for this award. The deadline for nominations for a 2012/13 Adam Bell Scholarship is Monday 28th May 2012.

We offer a range of scholarships worth £1,000 for international students, recognising academic excellence, proficiency in English and a desire to contribute to their country's development.
A £1,000 discount on tuition fees may also be available for international students with a sibling who has studied or is currently studying at Edge Hill.
