Mark received his Ph.D. in Spanish History from the University of Liverpool, his M.A. in Interpreting and Translating from the University of Bradford, and his BA in History and German from the University of Manchester. He has worked as a multilingual interpreter for several international political and theological conferences, translated an academic monograph for the Johannes-Kepler-Universität Linz, and taught English at schools and colleges in Germany and Spain. He has given academic papers at various History conferences in Europe and Latin America, and has collaborated in media outputs and consultancies (Mexican radio, Spanish television documentary). During 2009 he was a guest lecturer in Zacatecas, Mexico for the Bicentenary/Centenary commemorations of Mexican Independence and Revolution, where he also managed a research project for the state government, and coordinated a Mexican History course for a Canadian-Mexican student exchange programme at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas. He is a member of the Society of Authors (UK). Mark teaches and supervises European and International History at Edge Hill University and the University of Liverpool. His research focuses on war and society and the origins of political radicalism in early nineteenth-century Spain. He is currently working on a social history of the First Carlist War in Spain (1833-40). He has published review essays, book chapters and research papers, and is pursuing an active research agenda.
