Dr David Law
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students and External Relations)
Dr David Law joined Edge Hill University in 2008 as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Students and External Relations. He is responsible for overseeing the development of the University’s student services, widening participation strategy, marketing, and international development strategy. He chairs the Equal Opportunities and Student Support Committee, an Academic Board committee, and both the International and the Marketing and Recruitment Groups. External responsibilities include chairing the Executive Committee of the Greater Merseyside and West Lancashire Lifelong Learning Network. Following a first degree in History at Sussex University and postgraduate study in Area Studies at Glasgow, David began his academic career as an international historian and after university teaching and academic research both at Glasgow and Keele, including sabbatical leave as a Visiting Research Fellow at Harvard, David joined Hull University in 1998 as Academic Registrar. From here, he moved to Warwick as Academic Registrar where he was responsible for student-related academic administration, including admissions and the Graduate School. Leading on the development and implementation of the University’s internationalisation strategy, he eventually became Director of Warwick International.
David has held a number of sector-wide positions, including Chair of the UK-wide University Admissions Professional Practitioners Group. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of the Academic Registrars’ Council and in 2006 David was awarded a Fellowship by the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education. As a Board member of UKCISA, the UK’s Council on International Student Affairs, David is closely involved in the development of ‘good practice guidance’ for the UK HE sector.
