I genuinely feel that it is an honour and privilege to shape the lives of children by stimulating their minds and giving them the skills to learn. I also consider it a fulfilling and socially responsible challenge.
PGCE Primary Education
“The thing that attracted me to a career in teaching was its diversity. Every day is different and there are countless opportunities to be creative in bringing learning to life for children.
Teaching a broad range of subjects allows me to find new ways to stimulate the natural curiosity that all children have, developing their willingness to learn, whilst expanding my own skills and knowledge too!

When I started the course I was struck by the fact that there is a lot of work and we were literally straight into it. After spending almost twenty years working in the media I was used to a fast-pace and long hours, but the PGCE certainly gives it a run for its money. Having said that, whilst demanding it is also extremely rewarding and I’ve been encouraged every step of the way by enthusiastic tutors who are passionate and teach with creativity.
I’ve found the course to be well structured and in-depth with well-spaced teaching practices throughout. The practical and relevant nature of the programme means that you are well prepared when it comes to going on placement, which is a big help as it can be daunting going into a school for the first time.
I’ve met some amazing people on my three placements, as well as on the course, and the teaching practice has shown me that teachers are truly passionate about what they do, are constantly learning and continually reflect upon and improve their skills to give the children the best they can. This has been so refreshing and inspiriting after previously working in an industry where everyone looks after number one.
Whilst on the course my personal tutor, course leader and English tutor were solid rocks of encouragement and support. Their dedication and commitment has been inspiring and shown me what kind of teacher I’d like to become.
With two young children and a husband that works away on business, I’ve not had much time for anything other than the course recently, but now that it is coming to an end I’m currently in the process of applying for my first teaching post. Again, Edge Hill has been there to offer much-needed advice and assistance to help in the application and interview process.”
