Applying through GTTR
If you have the necessary entry requirements to study on a full-time or flexible PGCE programme, you must apply direct to the Graduate Teacher Training Registry (GTTR) via www.gttr.ac.uk.
You are advised to apply as early as possible for programmes beginning the following autumn. It will cost £19 to apply through GTTR for up to four courses starting in September 2013. Applications for September 2013 entry can be made from mid-October 2012.
The process to complete the online application form is not dissimilar to UCAS. You will need to register with GTTR Apply and detail your employment history, qualifications and personal information, then complete a personal statement.
References form a vital part of your application. You need to obtain a reference from a principal referee as an application cannot be paid for or sent to GTTR without this included.
If you are at university or college, or if you finished your studies within the last five years, your principal referee should ideally be from a tutor who can comment on your academic achievements and personal qualities. Joint Honours graduates who want to teach one main subject at secondary or further education level should ideally choose a principal referee from the department delivering that subject.
If you accept a formal offer from Edge Hill University, you will be required to meet the Department for Children, Schools and Families' standards for physical and mental fitness to teach, clearance to work with children and provisional registration with the General Teaching Council for England (GTC).
More information on the application process is available from www.gttr.ac.uk or by calling the GTTR Customer Service Unit on 0870 112 2205.
