The common good

The head of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation used her inspirational talk at Edge Hill University to argue that "too much political discussion and policy is about individuals, rather than the more important things that hold us together".

As part of a series of lectures on the theme of ‘the public realm', the University's Centre for Policy Studies invited Julia Unwin, now in her fifth year as chief executive of the influential charity that funds research on social problems, to speak on The common good - what does it mean for people and places in poverty.

Listen to an interview with Julia here as she explains how we need to pull together as a society to solve problems around a lack of money and resources and explore prospects to build a stronger society.

Anna Coote, Head of Social Policy at the new economic foundation (nef) will be delivering the next lecture Moving Upstream: The Triple Prize of Preventative Government in the series on 8th November. The lecture is free to attend and spaces are limited. To book your place, email corporateevents@edgehill.ac.uk. Arrival is 5.30pm with drinks with canapés, ready for a 6.30pm start and refreshments and networking afterwards.
