Teaching Awards
Does your lecturer go above and beyond their role to make your learning experience better? Then why not nominate them for a brand new Edge Hill University award.
The University has joined forces with the Students' Union to introduce the Chancellor's Excellence in Teaching Awards 2011 to recognise those tutors who go the extra mile in education.
Launched today, 4th April, the new initiative will be student-led. It will be up to you to decide who you should nominate, based on who you think is an excellent university teacher and who helps you to learn more effectively.
The idea behind it is to show support for academics and make them feel appreciated, as well as benefiting students and it will contribute to raising the already excellent standards of teaching at the University.
Dean Currall, SU President, said: "The Students' Union is really pleased to be working with the University on this fantastic new awards scheme and we will be working hard to ensure that students participate in the awards".
"It is a great chance for students to thank their lecturers for all their hard work and support and give them the recognition they deserve. The University is very ambitious and it is initiatives like these that really take it forward and ensure that the learning experience here is enhanced even further."
Two awards will be given out in each of the three faculties - Health, Education and Arts and Sciences.
Professor Mark Schofield, Dean of Teaching and Learning, said: "Excellent teaching is at the heart of what we do and the University values this very highly. These awards will provide a great opportunity for recognition of those tutors who shine and for them to be publically celebrated by their students."
The deadline for nominations is 22nd April. For more information or to fill in a form, go to http://surveys.edgehill.ac.uk/teachingawards.
Awards will be given to the winning lecturers at graduation ceremonies in July.
