Employability Days in Sport

The spring term has once again seen third year Sport and Exercise Science, Sport Studies and Sports Therapy students participate in Edge Hill University's annual Employability Days in Sport event.

Undertaken as part of their Personal and Professional Development module the students have been guided through the recruitment process to provide them with invaluable knowledge and understanding as they prepare for employment upon graduation.  

During this module students apply for ‘real-life' posts that have been advertised online and which correspond with their skills. Following the successful completion of a letter of application, a curriculum vitae and application form, students are formally interviewed to ensure their experience is as realistic as possible.  

With up to forty students interviewed each day, this year's interview panel included Careers Adviser, Des Hope and Volunteering Co-ordinator Hester Turner from Edge Hill's Careers Centre, Jessica Hunt, Recruitment Consultant from GPW Office Personnel in St. Helens, Angela Hepworth, Senior Lecturer and module leader for Personal and Professional Development at Edge Hill, together with academic staff who wished to support the event and be involved in the process.

Angela comments, "I have been organising this event for over seven years and the standard this year has been the highest yet! The way the students presented themselves has been a real credit to Edge Hill."  

"As an institution we believe employability is important and the feedback we receive from students confirms that events such as these are worthwhile." Adding, "Those participating in the event have verified that after experiencing the interview process as part of their studies they have more confidence in applying for graduate positions when preparing to leave University."
