Dare to be different in business

Dynamic award-winning entrepreneurs will discuss how they have grown their company using a unique business model at the next Edge Hill University alumni networking event.

On 31^st March guest speakers Dave McTague and Richard Pontefract, from Another Media, will share the secrets of the success they have had by following a creative approach in the competitive world of marketing.

Another Media was set up in late 2007, when a group of individuals who had worked in promotions and marketing for a number of years decided to pool their skills and resources.

The company was established as a collective, allowing individuals or freelancers to manage their own projects under the banner, while still retaining a core team of full-time staff dedicated to individual aspects of the business.

The Liverpool-based organisation offers a host of supporting marketing services from design, print, publicity and events - and associates include promoters, music managers, musicians, DJs, publicists and producers.

Managing Director Richard explained: "All employees are encouraged to have business interests outside of the company, and we feel this relieves a lot of stress that a traditional company structure may otherwise cause. Overall, we are open, organic, innovative and very hands-on - diverse, yet very focused on our core competencies."

On the night, the speakers will discuss this innovative business approach and will then be asked questions from a specially selected University panel. The audience will then have a chance to seek their advice and learn from their experiences in continuing to be successful in growing a unique company and recruiting new employees and partners in a difficult economic climate.

Following the session, there will be an opportunity to network with Edge Hill alumni, University staff and the business community over drinks and canapés in the Business and Law Building.

From 4.30pm academic lecturers will be available earlier in the evening for information and advice on our range of postgraduate courses, which alumni can benefit from a 20% discount on eligible full and part time postgraduate course fees.
