First Education Open Evening in Coventry proves a huge success

Edge Hill's Faculty of Education hosted their first open evening recently to showcase a range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) including foundation and honours degrees and Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programmes available through our collaborative partnership with Coventry Local Authority.

The event was held in the impressive new building at Courthouse Green Primary School and attended by a number of representatives from Coventry schools, as well as local people interested in undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate studies.  

Offering a variety of courses for the whole school workforce, the evening gave attendees the chance to discuss the professional development courses, accreditations and training opportunities which will be available at the Elm Bank Corporate Training Centre in Coventry.  

As part of the event attendees were addressed by Edge Hill's Faculty of Education Associate Dean, Peter Townley, who discussed ‘The Importance of Teaching', outlining what the Government White Paper means for teacher training and the schools of tomorrow.  

There was also the opportunity for visitors to experience a Promethean classroom with technicians showcasing the latest hardware and software and guests being able to try out products for themselves, an activity which proved really popular.  

The successful event resulted in a large number of enquiries from people looking for a route into teaching, teachers interested in Masters work, as well as schools interested in finding out more about ITT placements.
