Extra places for primary teacher training
Edge Hill University has been awarded additional places for primary teacher training in recognition of its excellent reputation in the education sector.
The Department for Education and the Training and Development Agency for Schools has just announced the allocation of an extra157 training places for primary teacher training at the Ormskirk-based University.
This dramatic increase in contracted intake places is in light of Edge Hill's strong status as one of the top OfSTED-rated providers of primary education; the excellent retention and completion rates of its programmes; and the success of the University's graduates in the labour market.
Robert Smedley, Dean of the Faculty of Education, said "As the UK's largest provider of education and training for the whole school workforce, Edge Hill University is delighted by this further recognition from our key stakeholders of the quality of, and demand for, our provision. We have already received more than 3,000 applications for initial teacher training for this September and we are convinced we can fill these additional places with excellent candidates and continue to provide high quality teachers for the region's schools."
A centre for teacher training since 1885, Edge Hill is the second largest provider of teacher training in the country and the largest provider of secondary teacher training. Edge Hill has a reputation for, and a commitment to, the highest quality training of education professionals for a range of educational settings on a national basis.
The Faculty's portfolio of programmes reflects the national drive to ensure that the highest quality professionals are working with the country's children and young people.
Primarily based in a £9 million, purpose-built Centre of Excellence at Edge Hill University's Ormskirk campus, the Faculty of Education has a network of study centres throughout the country and has built excellent relationships with over 3,000 partnership schools.
