Award winning careers advice on offer
With Graduate employment once again hitting the headlines the careers support provided to university students is more important than ever.
This, however, is good news for students at Edge Hill as the University's success in enhancing career prospects has been acknowledge as top in the North West (full-time first degree) and second out of all English universities for graduate employability in the Higher Education Statistics Agency's ‘Destination of Leavers from Higher Education Survey 2009/10'.
No matter what the career goal of a student might be, they will discover dedicated advisers are always on hand with confidential support and guidance to help their knowledge, skills and experience develop into real graduate prospects.
Head of Careers, Jacqui Howe, comments: "We have a very busy, yet exciting, year ahead at the Careers Centre with regular careers fairs planned and a number of regional, national and international graduate employers scheduled to visit campus to provide sessions for individual groups of students."
Jacqui and her team have established significant links with key organisations in the private sector including Asda, the Co-operative Group and Enterprise Rent-A-Car, who they put in contact with relevant programme leaders to ensure students benefit from the vested interest these companies have in their future employability.
With dedicated arts and science, health and teaching careers fairs taking place annually, students are able to meet prospective employers, develop valuable contacts for the future and gain information about upcoming job opportunities. In addition to this, the free Job Club provides access to a broad range of student vacancies, whether internships or placements, part-time, temporary or vacation work including voluntary and community based projects. These have recently included posts within the BBC, The Bank of America and L'Oreal.
Jacqui concludes, "Here at Edge Hill we always strive to ensure our students are a step ahead of the rest in securing that graduate job and so the University's results in this survey are very rewarding."
