Making history

History student Becky Jackson is happily reflecting on her successful first year at Edge Hill after coming to the University through Clearing.

The 19-year-old from Burnley changed her choice of subject and ended up with only one offer of a place.

On A Level results day last year she panicked when she didn't get the grades she needed but her college tutor supported her through the clearing process.

She has just completed her first year of the BA (Hons) History degree course and is delighted that she chose Edge Hill University. "I'm so glad I chose Edge Hill. My first year has been brilliant. When I first looked at universities I didn't think I would like a campus university but as soon as I came here to have a look around I knew I'd picked the right place. It's such a nice environment and has a friendly atmosphere. My tutors have been great and the course has been very interesting so far. I'm particularly impressed that I've been able to combine my studies with English because it gives me even more options for the future, including the possibility of teaching."

Becky applied through Clearing and found the support from the University's dedicated team a big bonus. "I couldn't believe how helpful they were and how quickly they were able to sort me out with a place. To anybody who doesn't get the grades they expected, don't panic because there is lots of support out there and you may find that you end up with an even better university place than you planned for."

Edge Hill University still has a small number of places available in certain subjects for exceptional candidates. Some of these places are in newly developed courses and as a result of the University being awarded additional places in successful areas.
