Clear your way to success
Didn't get the grades you were expecting for your university course? Don't panic, is the message from Edge Hill University's Clearing Team.
As thousands of students across the country receive their A-Level results on 19th August, many will be jumping for joy but, for some, the day can descend into stress if marks don't match expectations.
Many students may think that not making the grade means they have automatically lost their university place. However, Edge Hill has an entire team dedicated to advising students in this situation on the options available to them.
Clearing is the system that students use to see which universities still have places available, to help those who have to change their university plans at short notice.
Anne Wilson, Head of Admissions, said: "If students have not done as well as they expected, don't panic, it's not the end of the world. They should still call their first choice because the place might still be available to them. If this is not the case, they can have a look for a course they would like and call that institution. Also, Clearing can be useful for those whose circumstances have changed since they first applied to university. A student may have gained much higher qualifications than they expected or may simply have changed their mind about the subject they want to study."
Edge Hill University still has a small number of places available in certain subjects for exceptional candidates. Some of these places are in newly developed courses and some are a result of the University being awarded additional places in successful areas.
To find out more, students can call the Clearing Team on 0800 028 66 77, which is open from 8.30am on Thursday 19th August to 5.00pm on Friday 27th August.
In this video, Anne calms a few nerves and dispels some common misconceptions about Clearing.
The University is also running an open day on Saturday 21st August, including campus tours and the chance to meet other students who will be starting in September. To book a place, visit the website edgehill.ac.uk/opendays.
