Masters of Postgraduate Education
Figures released by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), the central source for the collection and publication of higher education statistics in the UK, places the University top in this category.
With 10,735 taught postgraduate students, the University’s impressive numbers beat research-intensive institutions such as Manchester and Birmingham, which came second and third respectively.
The University is well-established in the areas of education and health – as well as being one of country’s largest providers of postgraduate education for the school workforce, it is one of the main providers of health care professionals in the north-west.
In recent years, the University has invested in its range of postgraduate courses, diversifying its portfolio to offer programmes in areas such as business and management, computing, creative writing, performing arts and voluntary and third sector management.
Vice-Chancellor Dr John Cater said: “These numbers reflect Edge Hill's position as a pre-eminent provider of education, training and professional development for the whole school workforce and for the NHS, and the fact that we provide opportunities across the country working in partnership with local authorities, trade unions and private sector providers. It is our view that a successful university should support learning wherever it best serves the learner, her or his employer and the communities they serve, and I was both delighted and surprised at the scale and success of this work."
