Sir James Dyson gives seal of approval to 2009 DT awards at Edge Hill

Sir James Dyson has sent his personal regards and best wishes to those attending the 2009 Northwest Design and Technology Festival which is being held at Edge Hill University on Wednesday, 24 June and Thursday 25 June 2009.

In the personal address, Sir Dyson says: "I am delighted to be able to lend my support to this the second North West Design and Technology Festival which is being held at Edge Hill University.

"Design and Technology is an essential part of the curriculum and this event encompasses not only a showcase for the very best work produced by pupils and students from a range of institutions across the region, but also plays a vital role in supporting the development of teaching staff to help them to continue to be able to work with the children in their care to produce such an extensive and innovative range of high quality learning opportunities.

"I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to and supported the organisation of this unique event for their hard work and take this opportunity to wish the Festival the very best of success."

The two-day event is a unique celebration of the very best Design and Technology work from across the region. Partners involved in the collaboration include The Science Learning Centre (North West), The Bolton Science and Technology Innovation Centre, Manchester Metropolitan and Liverpool John Moores University.

The first day will designated for children and teachers from primary schools whilst the second is an event for staff and pupils from the secondary educational sector

The event will comprise of keynote speakers, trade exhibits, a schools exhibition, workshops for teachers and competitions for children.

The pupils will be supervised throughout the event by trainee teachers, which will leave teaching staff free to enjoy the festival, share good practice and participate in workshops and conference based activities.

The event will end with an awards ceremony to celebrate the successful achievements, and hard work of the pupils and the dedication of their teachers.
