Open-air jungle fun for all the family
Venture into the jungles around Edge Hill University as one of Rudyard Kipling's best-loved tales is brought magically to life in a special outdoor performance of The Mowgli Stories at the Rose Theatre on Saturday 6 June.
Adapted from Kipling's collection of Jungle Books, Illyria Theatre Company's production tells the story of Mowgli who is found as a tiny baby by a family of wolves and adopted as one of the pack. It soon becomes clear that although the 'little frog' has less fur than the wolf, less speed than the panther and less agility than the monkey, his courage and wit mark him out as the future King of the Jungle. How then will he cope if he should ever encounter his own kind again?
With a familiar cast of characters including Baloo the bear, Bagheera the panther and the treacherous tiger, Shere Khan, The Mowgli Stories follows the man-cub as he grows up in the jungle, learning to speak, play and fight like the other animals. Despite being accepted by the jungle world, Mowgli is eventually forced to realise his true destiny and return to mankind to protect his friends and secure their future.
Best known from the Disney animation The Jungle Book, Kipling's original is thoughtful, funny and more exciting than any cartoon! Using masks, puppetry and songs, this brand new show from Illyria evokes a vivid and exciting world which will delight audiences of all ages - come rain or shine!
Award-winning theatre company Illyria was created in 1991, and ever since has delighted audiences the length and breadth of the UK, and abroad, with its refreshingly original adaptations of English classics.
This is an open air performance so bring suitable clothing, a rug or low backed chair and plenty of suntan lotion (or an umbrella!). And don't forget the picnic...
Suitable for all ages 5+. Performance starts at 4.30pm.
Tickets £8.00/£6.00 concessions, £24.00 family ticket.
