Students launch Chancellor's website
Two Edge Hill University scholarship winners launched a brand new website for the University's Chancellor this week.
For the first time, Professor Tanya Byron will have her own student-run website, where there will be regular news, an image gallery and blogs written by students.
Callum Bamford, winner of an Online Excellence Scholarship in 2008 and Raluca May, winner of a Performing Arts Excellence Scholarship in 2007, have worked together on the design and content for the site since the idea was first discussed in June last year.
Since then, Callum, a first-year web-systems student and Raluca, a second year Drama student have been working together with Professor Byron to produce the site.
Asked about how he felt we was asked to work on the website, Callum said: "I was initially overwhelmed and a little nervous but the skills I learnt during my three-month placement at Zen Web Solutions in Manchester, gave me the expertise I needed to produce a design that Tanya really liked.
Raluca said: "I couldn't believe it when we were asked to design the site. I felt really lucky. It started as an idea and suddenly grew into the website. I was so glad to be a part of the project. It has been a great experience that I will never forget."
After graduation, Callum hopes to carry on using his website building skills. He said: "I would like to work as a web designer. At the moment, I am in the process of setting up my own online business, advertising my web design and developing my portfolio. My website should launch in the summer."
Raluca plans to stay on at the University to study for a PGCE, so that she can teach Drama to secondary school pupils.
