Home sweet home

Building work on brand new student accommodation for Edge Hill’s Ormskirk Campus is now underway.

The building work will be completed in September 2009, meaning students joining the University in the next academic year will have the option to apply for a place in the new ultra-modern rooms.

The accommodation, which will provide 144 extra bed spaces, is another important step in the University’s campus development plans, which has seen an investment of £105m in the last 10 years. Extra spaces on campus will also help to ease the demand on local housing around the centre of Ormskirk.

The new development is made up of several blocks holding between six and eight self-contained flats. Each student will have an en-suite bathroom and share a kitchen and living area.

In keeping with Edge Hill’s green ethos, the flats are eco-friendly, using solar panels to heat part of the buildings’ hot water supply and triple glazed windows and heavily insulated walls. Low-energy electrical fittings are also used throughout.

The flats are set in an attractive leafy area of the campus near St Helens Road, making them ideally located for Ormskirk town centre and train station, which has rail links to nearby Liverpool and Preston.
