Baring all for Comic Relief
Red Nose day is here and everyone at Edge Hill are doing their bit to raise money for UK and oversees charities alike.
Earlier this week, Danny Howard, 21 from Blackpool, decided to bare almost everything by wearing a ‘mankini' during a 12 hour DJ marathon to raise money for Comic Relief.
Danny said: "I've always been involved in raising money for comic relief and I've done various things. This year I thought, why not do something that I enjoy, that people will enjoy and that will raise money at the same time for a good cause.
People see me DJ every week on a Wednesday and Thursday at Edge Hill, so I wanted to add something into the challenge that would make it a more worthy trip to come and see me play and make a donation which is where the 'mankini' came in.
It was very, very cold, but it was worth it because it added something extra to the event and also tied in nicely with this year's comic relief slogan of 'do something funny for money'. It was quite funny to see the reaction on some people's faces when they saw me!
"I'd like to take the time to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated for the cause and for all those who came down to support me on the day as I'd actually forgotten just how long 12 hours is!
Becks Brocken from the Students Union said; "The event was brilliant, with lots of students joining in to support Danny. In the end, we raised £260 which will all be donated to Comic Relief.
We would all like to thank the University Club and West Coast Sound and Lighting for loaning the equipment. I would also like to thank everyone in the students union for their support in helping run the event and for donating so generously."
Each year, staff and students take part in the Red Nose Day Pub Quiz, and this year will be no exception. Team will pay £10 per team to fight it out for the coveted comic relief title.
The staff and social welfare group will hold a dress down day, with staff paying £2 to enter.
