Edge Hill visit Northern Ireland
Today will see the establishment an important partnership between Edge Hill University and Drumragh Integrated College in Northern Ireland.
Gareth Jackson, Education Liaison Officer said: "I will be travelling to Drumragh College to meet the students there. By meeting them face to face, understanding their ambitions after sixth form, we can explore how to support their needs and aspirations."
Edge Hill was a pioneer in offering higher education, unrestricted by religious creed. That tradition continues with the establishment of this relationship as Drumragh College has the same religious ethos, creating an environment that is open to both Catholic and Protestant pupils.
The relationship was initiated by 19-year-old Stuart Gibson, an Edge Hill Drama student who was a pupil at Drumragh College.
Stuart said: "I discovered Edge Hill University when I was on holiday in England last year and an advert for the University came on the television. I was lucky that I just happened to be watching at the right time, but I would like to work with Edge Hill to make more people in Northern Ireland aware of the University as it is a fantastic place to study.
"I love the fact that everything is all on one campus and Liverpool city centre is only a train ride away."
It is hoped that a further education network for Ireland will be established as a result of the partnership. Gareth Jackson said: "Edge Hill University will be working together with Drumragh College to map out a network of integrated colleges that will be supported by the University.
"We will be hosting student exchanges and offering help and support to pupils who are thinking about entering in to higher education."
