Three plays, six shows, one ship
Was the 20th century the most violent period in history, with the state and the individual in conflict as never before? Is violence ever a legitimate response? These questions are explored in Acts of Terror, a season of plays designed and performed by final year students from Edge Hill University.
All three plays will be presented by performing arts students on board the Walk the Plank, the UK's only touring theatre ship, currently moored in the Albert Dock, Liverpool.
The three plays are:
Human Cannon - would you carry out an act of violence in order to protect a life, a home, or loved ones? Edward Bond’s extraordinary play is set against the panorama of the Spanish Civil War and looks at uncomfortable situations where anything is possible.
Date: Saturday, 13 December at 7:30pm & Tuesday, 16 December 7:30pm
Attempts On Her Life - Played out in a series of scenarios, both funny and terrifying, Martin Crimp’s acclaimed play is an unnerving theatrical experience. A parade of contemporary obsessions, from pornography and ethnic violence, to terrorism and unprotected sex are performed by nameless characters attempting to perfect the story of our times.
Date: Monday, 15 December, 7:30pm & Wednesday, 17 December 7:30pm
Mad Forest - Far from being a documentary, Mad Forest explores the reactions of ordinary people to the confused events in the last days of Communist Romania. The play presents powerful images of the damage done to people’s lives by years of repression and the painful difficulties of creating lasting change.
Date: Sunday, 14 December 7:30pm & Wednesday, 17 December 2:30pm
Tickets are priced at £8 / £4 concessions and are available from the Edge Hill University box office on 01695 58 4480
