Sporting heroes head to Awards ceremony
Edge Hill University will host The Advertiser Sports Awards for the second year running on Monday, November 3.
The Awards, which are sponsored by Edge Hill and supported by the West Lancashire Disability Forum, recognise outstanding sporting achievements by individuals and teams across West Lancashire in the past year.
Around 200 invited guests, including nominees, civic dignitaries, representatives from Trinity Mirror and Edge Hill are expected at the event at The Rose Theatre.
Categories include Sports Personality of the Year, Junior Sports Personality of the Year, Team of the Year, Junior Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Unsung Hero, Hall of Fame, Disability Achievement and an Inclusion Award.
Edge Hill University Vice-Chancellor John Cater will open the proceedings.
The University has a strong association with sporting excellence. The campus facilities recently won recognition from Olympic officials who selected Edge Hill as a potential training camp for athletes competing in the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
The University is also home to a host of community sports clubs, including Spartac Gymnastics and Liverpool Pembroke Athletics Club as well as attracting premiership football squads such as Bolton Wanderers.
This year Edge Hill also won national accreditation for its work to provide inclusive sports facilities to both able-bodied and disabled users.
