Jane Morgan invited to Women of the Year Lunch 2008

Women of the Year Lunch

Jane Morgan from Edge Hill University has been invited to join the prestigious Women of the Year Lunch. This highly established event, set up in 1955 by Lady Tony Lothian, brings together outstanding women from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life, in recognition of their individual achievements.

Each and every woman attending the lunch is considered to be a Woman of the Year and is invited in recognition of their contribution to society and achievements in their chosen field. These women are nominated by a council of over 40 women, including: President, Joan Armatrading, Chairman, Gill Carrick, Eleanor Angel, Maureen Lipman, Mary Nightingale, Doreen Lawrence, Virginia Wade and Ann Barr.

Jane's nomination is based on her role as Head of Midwifery at Edge Hill University, her international work in Rwanda and her contribution to the field of knowledge surrounding domestic violence.

Jane Morgan said: "I am really surprised and shocked to win the Good Housekeeping Magazine seat at the Women of the Year lunch 2008. My mum nominated me for my commitment and involvement in maternity services and health of women, including establishing scholarships and fundraising for nurses to train as midwives in Rwanda for a maternity hospital that doesn't have any midwives"

President, Joan Armatrading commented, "Each and every woman who attends the Women of the Year Lunch is here because of her considerable achievements. Each year we are introduced to more and more outstanding women and these women often overlook their enormous value. It is my honour and pleasure to ensure they are recognised and celebrated through this event for their enviable contribution to society."

The 2008 Women of the Year, whose professions span from the arts to the financial business world, encompassing media, medicine, politics, charity work, agriculture, journalism and much more, will have the opportunity to talk with each other on important issues and listen to key note speaker, author and women's rights campaigner, Eve Ensler. For over half a decade, speakers including, HRH Queen Noor of Jordan, Designer Vivienne Westwood OBE entrepreneur Martha Lane Fox and CNN correspondent, Christiane Amanpour have joined a prestigious list of speakers who raise awareness regarding world issues of interest to women, in an influential arena.

In addition, four awards are presented to highlight a few of these outstanding women. Award winners presented in 2007 with the impressive Elizabeth Frink sculpture included: Jasvinder Sanghera, Rose Molokoane, Sister Frances Dominica, Marguerite Patten OBE.

Winners of the 2008 Women of the Year Awards will be announced at the lunch on Monday, 13th October.
