Record numbers through the gates at Edge Hill

Edge Hill played host to over 2,200 visitors this week during the University's busiest ever open day. Potential students, together with their friends and families were given guided tours of the latest developments at the Ormskirk campus, advice on finances and accommodation, as well as the opportunity to talk to staff and students about different courses.

Liam Owens, Education Liaison Manager at Edge Hill said: "The open day held just after students have received their A-Level results is always the busiest of the year, but this year was exceptionally well attended. The attendees were a mixture of applicants for September 2008 who were coming to have one last look around before they start their course, and those with a view to applying for entry in September 2009. There were also those students and families visiting for the first time who we have made an offer through the Clearing process.

"There was a great buzz on campus with so many visitors exploring and finding out about the work that we do at Edge Hill. Everyone seemed to go away happy and it was great that the rain held off!

"We're delighted with the way numbers at open events are growing each year - it's a sign of the great strides that the University is making."

After the open day, one parent commented: "I visited Edge Hill University with my daughter who hopes to study for a degree in Journalism starting in September 2009. I thought the event was extremely well planned. Everything seemed to be so well organised, even when we over-ran in one talk, missing the next event that we hoped to attend, the kind staff and students went out of their way to help us.

"I also, as a parent, felt that Edge Hill was a friendly and welcoming place for young people to be. I have visited several universities and been a student myself and I have not been made to feel quite so welcome and at home as I did here. My daughter has also been very impressed today - Edge Hill is number one on her list. She felt like she had 'come home'."
