Student Save Gormley Statues' Modesty
On Valentine's Day, the students from Edge Hill University saved the
modesty of some of the the Antony Gormley statues’ on Crosby beach.
EDGE 08 ATTACK was the first in a series of live art events that were
carried out by the Performing Arts students as part of the Capital of
Culture celebrations.
The students, together with costume designer Monica Aslanian. have made
life size replica of a costume as part of their 'design for
performance’ degree. The inspiration for the costume was taken from a
painting on display at the Walker Gallery in Liverpool. The ‘attack’ is
the finale to the costume construction work the students have
undertaken.
EDGE 08 ATTACK was a live art event during which the students dressed
the Gormley sculptures, closest to the Crosby Leisure Centre, in a
biodegradable version of the costume they have studied with Monica. The
event came to a natural close at around 2.30pm when the tide came in
and washed the costume away.
Versions of the costumes will be exhibited later in the year at Rose theatre, Edge Hill University.
It was the first in a series of events staged as part of Liverpool as
the Capital of Culture 2008, by the Performing Arts department at Edge
Hill University. The project is launched in partnership with Face of
the City, a Liverpool 08 community arts project.
