After spending many years as a professional actor, appearing in numerous programmes such as Coronation Street and Crossroads, Marc Stanton from Edge Hill University, is taking to the high seas.
Hearing of Marc’s expertise in Chinese history and cultural awareness, the Cunard shipping line invited him to deliver several lectures to passengers on board the QE2, on what will be her final voyage.
The tour runs from 10th - 31st March 2008, with stops in Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Honolulu, Los Angeles and finally Southampton, where she will be decommissioned, before going on to Dubai to become a floating hotel and museum.
The lectures will be given throughout the voyage, and will look at a whole range of topics from Chinese civilization over the past 5,000 years and the Cultural Revolution under Chairman Mao to how for travellers of all ages can improve their video techniques.
After working for several years with independent production companies, Marc Stanton took a Masters Degree in Chinese Business and Asian Pacific Studies. He then went on to become an undercover reporter for several years, before taking a position as a Producer for NBC News in Beijing. He then returned to the UK to continue working as a freelance producer, whilst taking his Phd part time.
He joined the team at Edge Hill University in August 2004 as the Broadcast Journalism lecturer with special responsibility for television journalism.
Marc Stanton said; “To be invited to travel and present on the farewell voyage of the QE2 is a wonderful privilege. As well as talking about China and its culture, I will be bringing my experience both in front and behind the camera to the passengers when I deliver lecturers about video technique and photography skills. This is a great opportunity and a really exciting chance to present Edge Hill University to a worldwide audience.”
