Stimulating Lectures Put New Professors Under the Spotlight
Edge Hill University's newly-appointed professors will deliver four thought-provoking public lectures this Autumn.
The inaugural lectures tackle a diverse range of subjects from reading difficulties and friendships in children, through to anti-totalitarianism and widening access to higher education.

Tuesday, 27 November ? Professor Philip Erwin
Friendship and Peer Relations in Children - reflections on three decades of psychological research
Professor Erwin, a chartered psychologist, has conducted extensive research into the psychology of personal relationships. His studies have examined the bases of initial attraction, longer term relationships and relationship problems. He has researched and published on children's friendship and peer relationships for nearly 30 years.
Thursday, 6 December - Professor Rhiannon Evans
University: it's not for the likes of my kids, duck! - a bird?s eye view of widening participation policy and practice
Professor Rhiannon Evans is Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students & External) at Edge Hill University and since 2006 has also been Director of Action on Access, the national coordination team for widening participation in higher education. She has served on numerous working parties and committees and contributed to national reports and publications. Professor Evans has presented at national conferences and made three study tours to Australia.
Thursday, 13 December - Professor Alan Johnson
Aurum de stercore: Anti-totalitarianism in the thought of Primo Levi
Professor Alan Johnson has written widely on anti-totalitarian political thought and democratic leadership. This lecture focuses on Primo Levi, an Italian Jew and partisan fighter sent to Auschwitz in 1944. Levi survived the horrors of the notorious concentration camp and wrote extensively about the Nazi totalitarianism he had witnessed first hand.
Admission is free to all lectures, which start at 6pm at Edge Hill's main campus, St Helens Rd, Ormskirk and last approximately an hour.
