Ever Had the Feeling You're Being Watched? Art:Machine:Vision

An exhibition comprising of innovative new media works by four lecturers from Edge Hill University is to go on show at Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.

Art:Machine:Vision runs from 20 October until 28 December 2007.

The show includes the piece Interactive Eyes by Alex Jukes. Six monitor sized eyes with their inner workings exposed literally keep an eye on the visitors' every movement around the exhibition like a modern day Cyclopes.

Magnification is made up of 3ft high magnifying glasses which are placed on pedestals in a circle. When the viewer enters this darkened space, they are greeted by cellular, almost embryonic images emanating from each of the five lenses.

Having worked together for several years at the University's Ormskirk campus within the field of digital art and interactive media, Art:Machine:Vision sees the group exhibiting together for the first time.

The artists' collective is made up of gamer Neil Cockwill, Alex Jukes, Russell Murray and James Snazell.

Alex Jukes said, 'The Art:Machine:Vision exhibition at the 1830 Warehouse has been a fantastic opportunity to develop a series of exciting works with like-minded artist colleagues. The show also presents a rare opportunity to exhibit within a unique and historic space, with an amazing atmosphere. Through a series of interactive works and visual installations, the viewer is invited to examine their relationship with everyday technologies and digital media.?

Associated events: In addition to exhibitions and installations a number of associated events are being scheduled to enhance the exhibition and to encourage participation from both the public and their peers. The artists are keen to engage in discussions about their practice, raising awareness and generating feedback about their work and a series of open seminars will take place in the exhibition space during the show.
