Students Say Edge Hill is the Best in the North West
Staff and students at Edge Hill University are delighted with the results from the 2007 National Student Satisfaction Survey.
The North West results put Edge Hill top of the class in several subjects including Education Studies, Management, Media Studies, Nursing, Law, Physical Science and the Creative Arts.
This picture is reflected in the National rankings with Edge Hill gaining third place across the UK for Nursing, sixth for Management and ninth for Physical Science.
Edge Hill received its official University status in May 2006. To now be ranked by students inside the top twenty English Universities and second in the whole of the Northwest is an achievement of significant proportions.
The results are grouped into seven Quality Areas which include Assessment and Feedback as well as Personal Development within the University. Degree students ranked Edge Hill first out of twelve institutions in the North West for both of these categories.
A separate set of questions looked at NHS Practice Placements. Edge Hill scored highly in this area reaching fifth place nationally.
John Cater, Vice Chancellor at Edge Hill University said, "This is an outstanding outcome that reflects very positively on the quality of the learning experience for students at the University."
The survey is carried out each year by MORI and composed of twenty-two questions. It is completed by final year undergraduate student from Universities around the country. This year 177,000 students took part.

Rankings in this release are based on average results across the seven quality areas used in the Survey, for institutions providing sufficient responses within the Level 2 subject group. Responses include ITT students.
The method of calculation for the seven Quality Areas was to average each student's score on a scale of one to five. The overall average was the average across all Quality Areas.
Summary data are available on the attached spreadsheet. The full dataset is available at: www.hefce.ac.uk/learning/nss/data/2007.
The National Student Survey (NSS) is part of the Unistats web-site. The NSS covers higher education students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This year, eight Scottish universities and the independent University of Buckingham are also taking part, as are students on initial teacher training courses funded by the Training and Development Agency for Schools and students on NHS funded courses.
