Students Enjoy Silver Screen Success
Animation students at Edge Hill University got a taste for the big screen after their work was showcased in the centre of Liverpool.
Following in the footsteps of greats like Nick Park and Walt Disney, a group of second-year BA (Hons) Animation students witnessed their creations leap from the drawing board and onto the silver screen.
Alex Jukes, Programme Leader in Animation looked on with pride as the screening in Liverpool's Clayton Square took place. He said: "We edited together a 20-minute show-reel of Level One and Level Two student work from the past year. The reel demonstrates the high level of creativity produced by the students as well as the various forms of animation styles taught on the course that include digital, hand-drawn animation and stop-motion techniques.
"Having a public screening at this point when the course is so new is a big step for ourselves and the media department. We are looking to develop the idea even further and showcase our graduating students' work next year at a bigger venue in Liverpool."
Edge Hill's Animation degree aims to develop students' ideas by combining both digitally-based animations with the traditional elements to embrace the contemporary industry that exists.
Throughout the course students gain a wide range of new skills, which are developed over three years. They are guided from the basics of time keeping in production all the way through to the final practical project.
Alex explained that career prospects within the industry are looking good. He added: "We have been working with big players in the world of animation and our students are gaining the skills and confidence to work in a variety of different media platforms including film, web-design, advertising and the ever-expanding animation industry."
The BA (Hons) Animation course joins a growing list of degrees that the media department at Edge Hill offers which includes Journalism, Media Animation and Digital Media Design.
