Learning is Not Confined to the Classroom
Edge Hill has recognised the hard work that students put in at University - away from the lecture theatre and classroom.
Through the University Job Club, students gain valuable work experience and an additional source of income by filling internal vacancies at Edge Hill. During a special presentation, students received awards for their hard work and dedication.
Katharine McKinnon, Employer Liaison Officer, said: "We fully appreciate everything that they do. Over the past year we have had students working in a wide range of jobs, which included one student being a lifeguard, and another who passed his mini-bus driving test just so he could take disabled people to events. We hope all of these varied experiences will help our multi-talented students once they graduate."
Overwhelming tough competition, BA (Hons) Film Studies and History graduate, Tristan Jennings, took the award for Student Employee of the Year. He said: "I'm really pleased to be nominated for this award never mind win it.
"Amongst other tasks, I have been working as a student blogger for the past few months. It means that any prospective students wanting to know anything from our point of view contacted us through the University website. I liked to call it our 'Through The Key Hole' look at life here. This is the first time that Edge Hill has done anything like this, and there are plans to expand it further next year."
Tristan was commended for his hard work with the Education Liaison Team over the past few months. In particular, his determination to succeed and the new leadership skills that he had developed while working for the University were recognised.
The Job Club at Edge Hill also provides a free recruitment service for local employers. Over the past year the club has advertised many jobs in the Ormskirk and surrounding areas, as well as vacancies for Liverpool Football Club, Radio 1's Big Weekend and Aintree Racecourse.
If you wish to advertise your part time vacancies of up to 15 hours per week or would like more information about the Job Club please contact Katharine McKinnon on 01695 584322.
