Developing the Children's Workforce

Edge Hill University is offering Merseyside's children's workforce the chance to develop their careers and ensure the region?s young people continue to get the best education.

Edge Hill, the UK's largest provider of professional development for the children's workforce, is holding a special open evening at its Wirral Education Centre in Bromborough on Thursday 14 June, from 6.00-8.00pm.

The event is the ideal opportunity for teachers, teaching assistants, school support staff and early years practitioners to get advice and information about opportunities including the new government-backed Early Years Professional Status.

By 2010, the government aims for Early Years Professionals to be in place in every children's centre offering early years provision and in every full day care setting by 2015. Edge Hill has been delivering these courses since January 2007.

The open evening will also highlight other areas such as Foundation Degree programmes and HLTA training for teaching assistants along with post graduate and masters courses. The majority of these programmes are offered at the Wirral centre, making it easy for local people to access professional development opportunities.

Edge Hill University has been training teachers for more than 120 years and is committed to widening access to as many people as possible, regardless of location. Strong partnerships with local authorities have resulted in the opening of a number of regional outreach centres, including the Wirral Education Centre, created in collaboration with Wirral MBC.

Programmes are designed to fit around people's working lives with work-based, flexible and part-time options available.

For further information on the open evening please contact Edge Hill's Enquiries Unit on 0800 195 5063.
