Making Every Child Matter
Edge Hill University is to hold its first public lecture to address the Government's Every Child Matters agenda set to make a huge impact on the lives of children.
Professor Stan Tucker, leading expert in the area of policy development for children, young people and families, will explore the sensitive issue of safeguarding children in the light of new legislation, at the first of a series of public lectures that starts next Thursday 19th April, at Edge Hill's Ormskirk Campus at 6pm.
Edge Hill's academic experts in psychology and education recently spoke out about their work in fostering a child-centred approach to developing courses for new professionals in children's services, as well as a research profile around the Every Child Matters agenda. This series of lectures builds on Edge Hill's reputation as a leader in child-centred education and training, and forms part of its work in stimulating debate around the issues, as well as pioneering new course developments.
Mark McGovern, Reader in Social Sciences organised the lecture series:
"We are delighted to welcome Professor Tucker to the University. His work on developing skills for those working with young people was cited in the government's Every Child Matters paper and he is co-author of a number of key publications on children and society. Here at Edge Hill we are keen to explore the philosophy behind the Every Child Matters agenda, as well as the practicalities of delivering a service that really will make a difference to children and their families."
The lecture series is aimed at those working in the health, social care and education sectors relating to children and young people. A free buffet and refreshments are available to attendees. Bookings can be arranged through Sharon Buckley email buckleys@edgehill.ac.uk or contact Mark McGovern on 01695 584430.
