Edge Hill Sets Up New Volunteer Centre
Edge Hill University has unveiled a new centre to manage its growing body of student and staff volunteers.
The centre, which will be run by volunteer co-ordinator Jennie Jackson and Student Community Action (SCA) co-ordinator Rosa Hussey, is positioned close to the Student Union making it even easier for individuals to get involved.
"We now have around 1000 registered volunteers at the University which represents a massive increase in a very short space of time," said Jennie. "These volunteers serve the local community across many areas including the emergency services, helping children and adults with disabilities, assisting the elderly, schools, nurseries and support groups.
"This centre will enhance the collaboration between Student Services and the SCA, ensuring that volunteer figures will continue to grow and grow."
The launch of the centre preceded the University's annual volunteering awards ceremony, attended by a number of local organisations, which honoured the efforts of staff and students.
