Screen Test for Film Fans
Edge Hill University is inviting budding Steven Speilbergs and Martin Scorseses to recreate the magic of the movies for a film competition with a difference.
Following hot on the heels of the launch of Short Cuts - the region's newest film society - the University has unveiled the online competition 'Take Two' which is open to all wannabe directors who feel they have a flair for film - and they don't even need a video camera!
The concept of the competition is for entrants to shoot short re-enactments of any classic film scene, on a digital camera or even on a mobile phone, and then either upload the entry directly onto YouTube at www.youtube.com/group/taketwo or via the competition website, www.edgehill.ac.uk/taketwo.
"The rise in popularity of YouTube and 'blogs' has led to more and more film clips being submitted by members of the public for the entertainment of others," said Andrea Wright, competition judge and Film Studies lecturer. "There's a very witty interpretation of Rocky on the web, filmed here on campus, and we'd love to see what else students and members of the public have to offer.
"As Take Two is web-based it really opens up the competition to the growing number of people who have a camera on their mobile phone. That said, we appreciate that the image quality won't be sharp - as long as we can identify evidence of originality and style that?s all that matters."
Entries must be under three minutes long and the top three, along with selected others, will be available to view on YouTube and Edge Hill's website. First place will receive £100 Amazon vouchers, second place £50 and third £25.
The deadline for submissions is May 18th - for full details on how to enter along with the competition?s rules and regulations, log on to www.edgehill.ac.uk/taketwo.
