Gee Whizz - Sam Scores Place on Talent Scheme
Edge Hill student Sam Gee has been granted a place on a national sports scheme for talented individuals.
Rugby League player Sam, who is studying for a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science , is a beneficiary of the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) ? a Government funded programme that distributes awards to young people who are committed to combining their sport and education.
The scheme?s main aims are to reduce the drop out of talented athletes from sport and support and develop the talent of today for sporting success in the future.
"I?m really pleased to be a part of the TASS which means I?m entitled to receive up to £3000 funding per year," said the 19-year-old former Standish High and Runshaw College student who plays centre for Warrington Wolves under 21s. "Sport and Physical Activity lecturer Gill Griffiths brought my attention to the scheme and I?m really glad she did as the money will provide me with the opportunity to tour Australia and New Zealand."
As the captain of English students Sam is no stranger to competing at a high level, despite only having played League for two years.
"I played Union first and decided to cross codes which has worked well for me. I hope to break into the Wolves first team over the next few seasons and the support from the TASS will ensure that I can focus on completing my degree at Edge Hill whilst retaining my commitment to Rugby League."
