Euro Visions
Students at Edge Hill University put North West MEP Chris Davies on the spot when he visited the Ormskirk Campus to speak to public relations and journalism undergraduates.
Chris spent some of the morning taking questions from those keen to discuss the workings of the European Parliament. He also advised public relations students on effective ways of working with the UK media.
Lecturer in Public Relations Paula Keaveney arranged the visit:
"It?s really important for students to hear about how public figures engage with the media," said Paula. "Public relations graduates can go on to work in a range of settings from the national and European political sector, local government, the health and education sectors, to private enterprise and consultancies. We are very grateful to Chris Davies for sharing his experiences with our students and for answering some challenging questions about the work of the European Parliament."
Before becoming a Member of Parliament Chris Davies worked in public relations and marketing and explained how his background has helped him to secure representation by the media.
"I find that there are widely differing levels of interest from sections of the regional media but my office does fairly well in terms of generating print media coverage," said Mr Davies. "My PR background does help, as I have developed an understanding of how the media works and I do put a lot of effort into media relations. I think an important part of my job is to promote the role of the EU particularly its relevance to people in the region."
