Edge Hill Welcomes Talented Scholars

Students of all ages and backgrounds have been awarded prestigious scholarships by Edge Hill University.

The successful scholars, who were amongst 200 students to apply for scholarships at Edge Hill, gathered at a celebratory dinner attended by Vice-Chancellor Dr John Cater and Andrew Battarbee, the new Deputy Director of the Department for Education and Skills.

Covering the areas of Excellence in Sport, Volunteering, Creative Arts and Performing Arts, along with a Preparation for Higher Education Scholarship for participants in the University's Fastrack scheme, each student will receive £1000-£2000 in their first year of study.

Dr Cater said: "I take great pleasure in welcoming this outstanding group of motivated new students to the University, each of whom has demonstrated excellence in their fields.

"Their talents are sure to thrive here at Edge Hill and I look forward to hearing of their continued success throughout their careers."

Among the scholars are acclaimed photographer Chris Charnock, national rugby league player Tyrone McCarthy, talented singer and pianist Sharron Draper and award-winning street dancer Steven Greene.

Edge Hill University provides one of the most generous support packages for students under the new tuition fee scheme, spending 64% of additional income on scholarships, bursaries and outreach activities.
