Higher Options

A service to help people find out more about accessing higher education opportunities is being developed at Edge Hill University, with the new appointment of Pre-Entry Advice and Guidance Worker recently filled by Ann-Marie Johnson.

The University has an established reputation for widening access to higher education and this new post is part of a range of initiatives to ensure that more people from backgrounds that don?t traditionally enter the sector have the opportunity to do so.

Ann-Marie, 34 from Rainford in St Helens is well placed to offer advice, particularly to mature students thinking about a change of direction by taking up higher education study.

"About six years ago I was working in a retail job, which I found really boring and felt I was ready for a fresh challenge. I wanted to do a degree, but as I didn?t have A levels I wasn?t sure which route to take to access higher education. I enrolled on Fastrack, the six week access course at Edge Hill and haven?t looked back since. I went on to study a BA in English and now I?m helping people in similar situations to myself with advice and guidance on the options available to them in taking up further study."
