Secrets in the Sands

Experts from Edge Hill University will be uncovering the secrets in the sands as part of National Archaeology Week, at a workshop event on Saturday 15th July at the Ainsdale Discovery Centre.

The afternoon workshop, from 1.00pm until 4.00pm, is free and open to the public, and will be led by Dr Annie Worsley and Steve Suggitt who will be examining samples of the Sefton coast sands to reveal the history of the area.

The workshop follows the success of the BBC series Coast, which featured Dr Worsley?s work on the human and animal footprints on Formby beach, unearthing clues to the lives of ancient man. Evidence of family activity includes footprints of children playing and young pregnant women.

Annie said: "We will be using microscopes and binocular lenses to examine the sand and mud so that we can recreate the coasts of the past."

Those interested in taking part should join the team at the Discovery Centre from 1.00pm.
