Conference an Education to Many
Colleges from across the North of England have gathered at Edge Hill University to learn more about the implementation of a Government White Paper ? 14-19 Education and Skills.
The implementation plan sets out proposals to overhaul aspects of secondary and further education and Edge Hill has developed a ?14-19 Curriculum Support Programme? in response.
John Dickinson, Edge Hill?s Programme Leader in Education and Training, said: "Many challenges lie ahead for schools and colleges as the need to diversify becomes more and more compelling. Institutions need to strengthen their vocational provision and re-establish the basics of Maths and English so that all young people have opportunities to learn in ways which motivate and stretch them.
"There are many other aspects to implement and it was very pleasing to see that so many schools and colleges are keen to devote their attentions to this reform."
The conference, which attracted institutions from as far afield as Shropshire and County Durham, gave delegates the opportunity to share best practice and hear about the impact of the Edge Hill support programme.
Edge Hill University is the largest provider of secondary Initial Teacher Training in the country with over 700 newly qualified teachers graduating every year.
