Big Hand for Volunteers
Edge Hill University's staff and students have received some well-earned praise at their first-ever volunteer awards ceremony.
The university has 350 registered volunteers with a number of organisations across the region ? many of which were on hand to receive a certificate for their efforts.
Rhiannon Evans, Edge Hill University's Director for Students and External Relations, said: "It is very important to be active in the voluntary sector as it has a great impact on both the lives of our students and the local community. The volunteers have given up a great deal of their time to help others and my congratulations goes out to them all."
Among the organisations on the receiving end of Edge Hill?s support are Advocacy West Lancs, Lancashire Constabulary and Social Services.
Volunteer Julie McCullough, a third year Social Work Studies student, said: "I'd recommend volunteering to any student ? it not only makes a difference to someone else?s life, it can boost your CV, gives you added confidence and is excellent preparation for moving into the workplace."
From this September, Edge Hill will be the only university in the North West to award an 'Excellence through Volunteering? scholarship, worth up to £2000. Please contact Adam Bell on 01695 584171 for further information.
