Thirty of the brightest year 11 and 12 students in the country have studied stage and screen as part of a residential weekend at Edge Hill.
The university hosted three specialist courses in film, technical theatre and playwriting for young people accepted onto the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth ? the Government backed initiative designed to develop and support educational opportunities for exceptional under 19s.
Bill Johnson, Edge Hill Widening Participation and Access Co-ordinator, said: "To be chosen to host the event due to our performing arts and media expertise ? along with our strong record in widening participation for young people in higher education ? was an achievement in itself and the weekend turned out to be a huge success."
In addition to practical workshops and presentations, the students experienced university life, took part in a quiz and film night and dined in the on-campus caf?.
"The students? work was shown in our on-campus Rose Theatre and everyone was really impressed with what they saw," added Bill. "Our academics were really positive about the event and it was a privilege to work with individuals with real potential."
Edge Hill plans to bid to host another Gifted and Talented event next year.
