Open Day to Educate and Inspire

People from Bury interested in pursuing a career in the classroom are invited to sample a taste of the profession courtesy of Edge Hill ? one of the largest providers of teacher education programmes in the country.

The Lancashire institution is to host an open evening at Holy Cross College, Manchester Road on Monday 20th March ? starting at 5.30pm until 8.00pm.

Edge Hill is offering a range of part time study options based at Holy Cross for teaching and learning assistants, and for trainers in further education and the public and private sectors.

Foundation Degree programmes in Teaching and Learning Support will be offered at primary and secondary levels and start in April and September. Foundation Degrees in Education and Training start in September.

Edge Hill?s Dean of the Faculty of Education Robert Smedley said:

"Edge Hill is renowned for offering training for the whole school workforce at a range of locations across the UK, particularly in areas of teacher shortage. We are delighted to be working in the Bury area, and hope that we can encourage many more people to take up training opportunities delivered on their doorstep by one of the leading providers of teacher education.

"We are keen to convey that whatever qualifications people have, Edge Hill can map their route to teaching. Many people working as teaching assistants choose to progress to qualified teacher status and those wishing to, or already working in a training environment may progress towards degree studies."

Edge Hill has been training teachers for more than 100 years and has excellent learning facilities including a new £9million purpose-built Centre of Excellence for the Faculty of Education.
