Students Rate Law Teaching Top

Final year students from Edge Hill have rated the teaching in its Department of Law and Criminology as the best in the country in the first National Student Survey ? an initiative by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). Student feedback also placed Edge Hill as top nationally for providing assessment and feedback, and second for overall satisfaction only to King?s College London.

The National Student Survey results revealed some surprises, turning traditional league tables on their heads with the Open University proving most popular with students in all subjects and Edge Hill joint fifth for overall satisfaction.

Franco Rizzuto, Edge Hill?s Head of Law and Criminology is delighted with the feedback from students: "Law is an expanding area for Edge Hill and it's great to have confirmation from our students that we are strong on teaching and in many other areas. The bulk of the students surveyed last spring for the National Student Survey were criminologists, but we are fast developing our range of law courses."

Despite it being a relatively new area for Edge Hill (the degree was introduced three years ago) Law is proving to be popular, with a 9% increase in student applications compared to this time last year.

"I think we have come out strong because we prepare our students for the world of work, with placements and proper career planning. Many students taking up law here are from non-traditional backgrounds. We are certainly widening access to higher education generally and in law in particular."
