Kylie's Six Appeal!

This year's opening Six Nations fixtures may not be blessed with the likes of Johnny Wilkinson and Gavin Henson however one Edge Hill lecturer IS set to take the field.

Kylie Wilson (pictured), who lives in Abram and lectures in Sport and Exercise Psychology, is all set to represent the Welsh national side in the women?s equivalent of the famous contest.

"This is my sixth season playing for Wales and the Six Nations is the highlight of the rugby year," said 30-year-old Kylie who plays her club rugby for Waterloo in Liverpool. "The games take place on the same weekends as the men?s matches and all eyes are on the opening fixture against England on February 4th."

Kylie, who captained Wales for two years, has also played in the World Cup in Barcelona and European Cup in Lille and Toulouse.

"Playing rugby at international level is quite demanding, particularly when myself and the rest of the squad all have full-time jobs. We are in training most of the week, either with our clubs, as part of the Wales set-up or on our own.

"Thankfully, working at a higher education institution means that I?ve got some really good facilities ? such as the track and gym ? close by so there?s no excuse for letting my fitness levels drop."

As the only woman in Wales to have a level 3 coaching qualification, Kylie intends to remain on the training field once she calls time on her playing career.

"I?ve coached Wales under 16s before and it would be great to be able to coach the players of tomorrow. There?s a lot of good young talent around ?Edge Hill student Rachel Finnan plays for England under 19s for example ? but for the time being I?m fully focussed on doing my best for Wales."
