Peter's Move is Headline News
Former Granada newsreader Peter Berry has swapped the newsroom for the classroom after moving into the world of education.
After 20 years in the media industry the 46-year-old from Birkenhead has joined Edge Hill as a senior lecturer in Broadcast Journalism.
After leaving Granada earlier this year Peter was keen to put his vast experience to good use ? and taking up a teaching role at Edge Hill was just the challenge he was looking for.
"After 15 years as a journalist, news editor, producer and presenter, I decided it was the right time to move on," he said. "I'd thought about working in higher education for quite some time, knew of the excellent media resources at Edge Hill so it seemed like a logical move to make."
Having also worked at Radio City for three years and being a fully trained journalist, Peter?s broad knowledge is certain to be of great benefit to Edge Hill?s media students.
"The department already has a wealth of experienced tutors however being fresh from the industry I can bring in some new ideas ? particularly on equipment and techniques. I?ve seen a lot of changes over the years and it will be great to pass on my know-how to the next generation broadcasters and journalists."
Peter, who is a former chairman of the Royal Television Society North West, is no stranger to Edge Hill after visiting the Ormskirk campus twice before.
"I first came to Edge Hill for an open day in 1980 and then with a camera crew in the early 1990s. Needless to say, the campus has changed beyond all recognition ? the media facilities are among the best in the region and it really is an exciting time to become part of the team."
Media lecturer Mark Fremaux, who Peter will initially be shadowing during the Film and TV tutorials, said: "We?re all delighted with Peter?s appointment which is a real coup for the institution and I?m sure his experience will prove to be an asset to the department."
