Take the Mike

Budding bands and solo stars have now got the perfect platform to showcase their talent ? a new music night at Edge Hill.

The exciting monthly event, which is open to musicians of all ages and styles, will take place at The Venue ? the institution?s new entertainment facility that has recently benefited from a swanky £100,000 facelift.

"Gigs will be split into two main areas ? 'Unplugged? and 'Raw?," said Edge Hill?s entertainment co-ordinator Danny Noble. "?Unplugged? takes place on the first Thursday of every month and will feature pre-booked bands playing acoustic sets and 'Raw?, which takes place on the last Thursday of every month, is open to anyone who turns up on the night with an instrument under their arm.

"Acts who fancy the 'Unplugged? event need to call in advance so I can arrange to have a listen to their work with a view to booking them in."

In addition to the two regular live music nights open to the public, Edge Hill is also set to host an increasing number of established bands, kicking off with El Presidente later this month.

"This venture is funded by the Rose Theatre and is evidence of our commitment to providing quality music for our students," added Danny. "I?m sure the events will also prove popular with people local to the area and best of all ? 'Unplugged? and 'Raw? are absolutely free!"
